Second Grade Overview

Second Grade students experience a comprehensive language program which incorporates enjoyable quality children’s literature to build spelling, phonics, listening/speaking, and reading and writing strategies and skills. Math engages students in hands-on learning, practice and critical thinking. Some of the math concepts covered include higher place value, regrouping, fractions, time, money, and introductory multiplication and division concepts. Science involves students in exploratory learning activities and lessons in a wide variety of areas, such as geology, weather, plants and vertebrates. In social studies, students focus on geography, citizenship, communities (including multi-cultural customs and communities), and important people and eras in America’s history. Positive Christian values and characteristics are modeled in the Bible curriculum through Old Testament individuals, and the life, teaching and ministry of Jesus.
