Third Grade Overview

Students in 3rd Grade are challenged to achieve goals of responsibility and academics. Independence is encouraged with assignment books and homework folders. Comprehension skills that emphasize critical thinking and analysis are covered with the Houghton-Mifflin reading program, as is vocabulary building. Language includes paragraph organization and structure, punctuation and capitalization, parts of speech and creative writing. Regrouping, multiplication and division facts to 12, fractions, measurement conversions, and problem solving are part of the math program. The focus of social studies is geography, map skills and the study of the development of our nation. The science text is The Purposeful Design which is divided into four major units – life science, physical science, the human body, and earth and space science. Biblical studies begin with the life of Christ (eternal existence through His resurrection and ascension to Heaven) and ends with the early church with a study of the book of Acts.
