Overview of the Academic Learning Assistance (ALA) Program

Welcome to Academic Learning Assistance

SVCS is blessed to have a wonderful academic assistance program designed for students – Kindergarten through High School – who desire to learn, yet need support in the traditional classroom setting.

The ALA Program follows the SVCS college preparatory standards, with intervention for students with learning difficulties.  Students enrolled in the ALA Program typically struggle with specific learning variations. They have average to high intelligence and do not have primary emotional or behavioral issues. The ALA application process and criteria are specific so parents will know whether or not the program is a good fit for the type of educational experience they desire for their child.  The Academic Learning Assistance Program is not a special education program.

Differentiated classroom instruction takes place in the following manner, with particular attention to each grade level:

  • Kindergarten – 3rd Grade (Pilot Program):  Students identified and enrolled in ALA will receive 1-on-1 instruction with a certified Reading Specialist to work on foundational concepts in order to build skills necessary before moving on to upper Elementary. Students will also be given accommodations in the areas of math and language arts as needed.
  • 4th-6th Grade: Students receive primary math (leveled) and language arts instruction from their mainstream teachers, and receive additional support and reteaching from ALA staff in the Resource Room during independent work time. Students will also have the opportunity to work with ALA staff in the area of organization and study skills for all core subject areas for projects and tests. Students also will be given accommodations in the areas of math and language arts as needed.
  • Jr. High School:  Instruction takes place in a combination of "mainstream" classrooms and small group multi-sensory classrooms. An elective course, Academic Assistance, is available for students to enroll in to receive additional homework help.
  • High School: Instruction takes place primarily in mainstream classes, with students receiving support and accommodations through the program. An elective course, Academic Assistance, is available for students to enroll in to receive additional homework help.

The ALA program contains highly devoted staff trained in methodologies effective for students with learning differences.

Because this program is a supplemental option at SVCS, there are additional fees and tuitions associated with it.

Our program is designed to help students develop the skills and confidence to succeed as they continue in their education, in their workplace, and beyond! If you would like additional information, please contact the school office or email info@svcschools.org.
