Did you see the weather report? It recently snowed in San Juan Capistrano! Well … at least in the part of San Juan Capistrano occupied by the SVC Preschool.
“Snow Day,” an annual Preschool event, was a fun, first experience with snow for many of our youngest Warriors. Oh, what giggles and gleeful faces!
Children came prepared with jackets, hats, boots and mittens. The cool “snow” accommodated SVC Preschool’s winter theme, as excited children threw “snowballs,” jumped up and down in the cascade of snow bubbles, glided over indoor classroom “ice rinks,” and participated in a variety of snow-related activities and crafts. After a morning in the snow, hot cocoa with marshmallow “snowballs” hit the spot.
Not only is Snow Day a fun time for our preschoolers, it’s also an instructional time for them. Teachers engage students in discussions about the four seasons, the five senses that God gives us to enjoy the seasons, and the fact that the weather is different in different places.
Snow Day is a perfect example of blending developmental and academic focuses — one of the things SVC Preschool excels at. It’s also the type of activity which fosters an environment of exploration and discovery.
