SVC Implements Transformative Programs from Project Lead The Way

Project Lead The Way’s (PLTW) career-learning programs provide hands-on, project-based learning and in-depth teacher professional development. As a PLTW-certified school, SVC teachers have the opportunity to include the program’s highly-regarded resources into our K – 8 STEM instruction.

PLTW is an innovative program which engages students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems reflective of real-world scenarios and careers. PLTW’s career learning programs introduce students to computer science, engineering, and biomedical science principles, and help them develop skills as they solve relevant problems in the real world. Research demonstrates that PLTW students outperform their peers in school, are better prepared for post-secondary studies, and are more likely to consider careers as scientists, technology experts, engineers, mathematicians, healthcare providers, and researchers compared to their non-PLTW peers. Students find PLTW programs relevant, inspiring, engaging, and foundational to their future success.

“PLTW has a long history of successfully engaging students in relevant and engaging ways,” said Jennifer Darling, SVC Director of Curriculum, K – 8. “We are excited to offer PLTW programs to our students, giving them the tools to solve problems and skills for success.”

“Project Lead The Way is proud to partner with SVC to inspire and engage students in transformative learning from the earliest ages,” said PLTW President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vince Bertram. “Together, we’re helping students develop a strong foundation in math and science, make connections between their classroom and careers, and enhance transportable skills that will prepare them to thrive in our evolving world.”

Teachers play an immeasurable role in empowering students to lead their own learning. In addition to activity-, project-, problem-based curriculum, PLTW programs include professional development training that provides SVC teachers with the support and resources they need to devote more time to inspiring students. Through PLTW Professional Development, teachers connect with other teachers across the country, joining a network in which they can share experiences and expertise with fellow educators who are teaching the same PLTW courses.

When SVC began PLTW, it became part of a community of K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and partners across the country united around a passion for providing students with inspiring, engaging, and empowering learning opportunities. Because of this engaged, national network, PLTW students often have access to opportunities including scholarships, preferred admission at colleges and universities, internships, industry connections, and avenues to highlight their achievements.
